Kesennuma Oshima

The Cherry Blossoms of Tohoku

Miyagi Prefecture / An island off Kesennuma, remembered through quietness and time

View from Kameyama, Kesennuma Oshima, Miyagi

Kesennuma Oshima lies off the Sanriku coast in Miyagi Prefecture, in an area affected by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

What I remember most, however, is the quietness of the island — the air, the crossing, and the feeling that time had softened there.

It is one of those places that returns not only as a landscape, but as a feeling.
